
Reports being monitored by this medium indicates that Mr. Ibrahim Sama Banya has been declared a wanted man by the government, this is as a result of his involvement in the TOMBO mayhem which led to the loss of lives of several protesters. It could be recalled that on the 6th May 2020, fishermen fishing in the famous fishing village of Tombo staged a peaceful protest over the action of the Government to allow only 10 fishing boats, out of a total of 88 boats, to go out to sea to fish, as part of the COVID-19 containment measures.
This infuriated the vast majority of fishermen, who, after several pleas with the authorities to increase the number proved futile, decided to stage a peaceful protest in the village, during which they matched to the district official’s residence and the police station to register their discontent. Tombo Sherbro tribal head Micheal Benga told Ayv Sierra Leone that youths were told to stop listening to social media commentator (Adebayor) on loud speakers in the town to avoid attracting crowd be because of the COVID19 regulations.
Deputy District Council Chairman for the Western Rural says two youths were gunned down by the security personnel and others were injured before he arrived at the scene.
Arrests have been made. A temporal curfew has been announced in the Town until the security situation improves.
Tombo is a community in the western rural district where over 90 percent of the people rely on fishing for survival.
Meanwhile the Sierra Leone Police have placed adverts natiowide declaring Sama Banya who is believed to have led the youth in Tombo to have instigated the riot with seven others. Several arrests have indeed been made and search for Sama Banya still continues..
